Gardening Club
Mrs Hodges runs an after school Gardening Club made up of Year 5 children.
We are looking forward to being outdoors and learning about growing plants and vegetables!
We have a polytunnel in which we can work if the weather is bad or if we are potting up or planting seeds. We also have a large raised bed and support Year 1 with the bulbs and plants they are growing as part of their Science curriculum. We have a wildflower garden by our KS2 slides to look after and develop too! We also help the Nursery team with the garden areas of the Nursery grounds.
At different times of the year the children have a stall in the playground with vegetables or flowers we have grown that the parents/carers can take in exchange for a donation. Any funds raised are used by the gardening club to buy equipment or seeds or plants. It is a successful enterprise.
Autumn 2023
NOVEMBER
So it was time to start prepping the raised beds at the front of school ready for some spring colour! We spent a lot of time weeding and removing stones and twigs that had somehow found their way into the beds. We then filled one of the beds up and planted some bulbs - 'Brilliant Orange' Tulips and Allium. We made the bulbs were planted the right way up and deep enough t protect them through the autumn and winter months! We can't wait to see the flowers begin to emerge in the spring!
Only 3 raised beds to go....!

OCTOBER
The weather has been lovely even though it is October. We spent some time looking round the school grounds and finding deciduous trees and evergreen trees. Once we had identified some we began collecting a range of Autumn leaves in as many shades and colours as we could to create sculptures. Some of also added berries to them. Don't they look wonderful!
Autumn Sculptures
We have been doing lots of garden maintenance to get the garden areas prepped before the winter. We have spread chip bark over the soil in the beds to suppress any weeds that may grow and cleared spaces for planting bulbs for some spring colour. We have deadheaded plants that will still flower over the coming months. We have weeded the raised beds too and filled in the holes the foxes keep digging! They give us a weekly repair job! We love being out and working together as a team as well as learning lots and developing skills.
Autumn in the Gardens!
Spring Time Rewards 2023!
We worked really hard in the Autumn weeding and preparing the garden areas and raised beds around school as well as planting bulbs and sowing seeds and can now see the results of our labours! So many vibrant colours and wonderful scents brightening up the school grounds! Well done gardeners!

Advent Preparations
The weather is now very cold and rainy so we have been busy indoors creating Christmas Cards for the other schools in the Blessed Peter Snow Academy Trust. We used evergreen as the main part of our cards and decorated them with sequins and drawings. We enjoyed this creative time!

Autumn Term 2022
We have been very creative in the outdoors! We collected leaves, both evergreen and deciduous, berries and strands of ivy to create our very own Autumn Sculptures. They took a while, lots of synergy and some patience to construct them but we are so pleased with what we achieved. We placed the sculptures in the raised bed on the patio so everyone can see them and enjoy them. What do you think?
